GUA MUSANG: The Health Ministry needs to quickly tell the Orang Asli of Kampung Kuala Koh the truth about the spate of deaths in the village, says MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.

He said despite the sample analysis by the Federation of Private Medical Practitioners Associations of Malaysia revealing high levels of manganese in the water sources, the ministry was not telling the Bateq folk anything.

“I’ve spoken to one of the villagers, and the relevant agencies have not disclosed anything to them despite queries. “They were also told to use water from a tank supplied by the state government,” he told reporters during a visit to the village on Wednesday .It was reported that 15 Orang Asli from the Bateq tribe in the village had died from pneumonia caused by a measles epidemic in the settlement.

Several parties have lodged police reports claiming that the deaths were caused by pollution in Sungai Lebir. However, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail denied this, citing a Health Ministry report during her visit to the settlement.
