In his first comments since the election, the president of the Australian Medical Association gives an unusually scathing assessment of Australia's health system.

AMA president Dr Tony Bartone said increasing corporatisation of private health has given insurers unprecedented power

And now Australian doctors are warning our own health system is shifting towards a similar US managed care model — a patchwork of private and public systems, where health insurers hold an increasing amount of power. He called for further private health reforms, telling doctors the increasing corporatisation of the private health system had given insurers unprecedented power within the health sector.

No! Stop. Leave Australian Health system as Australian. Australian Medicare has a fantastic reputation. If you must model it differently, choose a country that has Medical care for the entire population, complete and fully funded for all. Not the American model fiasco.

This government is responsible so it's so sad too bad

US-style healthcare, synonymous with no Healthcare.

If Yu don’t like it get off your arse and get a Job and sign up with health insurance insurance. The world is now a pay for what you want. Not just Australia.

Health care doesn’t come from the AMA and it’s pharma mates.

That's exactly what the LNP/IPA want. The healthcare system has been eroding since 2000 when Howard sold our healthcare system to America, while we were distracted by the Olympics. They wanted the PBS as well, but he knew that would attract attention.

Hey Australia - you get who you vote for...here it is.

I am still waiting for the privatisation of Medi-Care folks, just more Fake News from the ABC, the Labor Party's bum buddy.

Somebody please tell the AMA Union that the election finished nearly a week ago. Yawn.

Sounds like a scare campaign.

Isn'r this what the Labor Party have been warning Australians of for years? Vehimently denied by the Conservatives?

Now that the LNP is the govt, you can bet more funding will be stripped from health, in favour of multinational sycophancy, which stupid voters shouldve realized was going to happen, as it always does with the LNP. Infrastructure sell offs, become the model.

Do you want a strong economy 😉 or a better public health system? Best country in the world 👍

voters pick LNP with a zeal for priv health Look at LNP's deeds in NSW : land registry water desal toll roads Sirius n Powerhouse were all sold off to priv corp They do not want to pay taxes for better health Most retirees want better hosp n cancer care but they voted withWallets

The Australian voters decided that giving the rich freebees is more important than health care - the people have spoken (I just hope that next time they think about what they vote for)

Can the ABC and SBS and give that MASSIVE chunk of money to the hospitals, or to restart car manufacturering in Australia. PROBLEMSOLVED

And people still erroneously believe 'Mediscare' was a fear campaign...
