Former Sheffield Wednesday club secretary Graham Mackrell had responsibility for safety at Hillsborough stadiumFormer secretary of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, Graham Mackrell is the first person to be convicted of an offence relating to the tragedy.
Mackrell, 69, of Stocking Pelham, Hertfordshire, failed to ensure there were enough turnstiles to prevent large crowds building up.Ninety-six Liverpool fans died following the crush in the central pens of the Leppings Lane terrace at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989.
Mackrell sat in the well of the court rather than the dock for the sentencing hearing at Preston Crown Court.after an 11-week trial of failing to discharge a duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act in respect of ensuring there were enough turnstiles to prevent unduly large crowds building up outside the ground.
The jury in the trial was unable to reach a verdict over match commander David Duckenfield, 74, who denied the gross negligence manslaughter of 95 Liverpool fans.
I don’t understand the absence of causal link here.
That was all worthwhile then. I'm sure the victims' families will feel justice has been served...
So our lives were worth a whole £60 each? Great news!
According to the judge his action did not contribute to any deaths. A scrap goat.
That's plenty. He will suffer the rest of his life. It was in the days OF LAX just about everything
I supose he was part of the establishment still it has established his guilt so he could be eligible to pay some compensation now he can no longer argue he wasn't responsible
So, 365 days a year, x 30 years = 10,950 days...
Bloody Tory Government cover up and the Police are to blame for what happened at Hillsborough, if people had just done their job correctly 96 innocent people wouldnt have lost their lives and 766 people would never have been injured! This is an insult to all those people!
I understand the anger but what actually led to this tradegy. The lack of turnstiles or opening the gates? That was ordered by the police was it not.
a six grand fine is commensurate to being caught driving over the limit, a safety officer in charge where 96 people died agonisingly is an obscenity, and further proof if it were needed, that the system protects its own.
£60 a life - pathetic.
No jail? FFS.
So around £70 per life, what a joke!
Wow! That's a lesson he won't forget.
Is this still ongoing? 🙄
