About 15 months after a shooting killed 17 people at Florida's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the school's principal says he's stepping down

Thompson had led the school in Parkland, Florida, as it recovered after a gunman stormed the campus and killed 17 people on February 14, 2018. He was not at school that day.Several teachers told CNN that Thompson broke down in tears when he told staff and faculty in an emotional face-to-face meeting after classes on Friday.

It's been challenging, but I always remained as positive as possible and did what I felt was in the best interest of the students and staff."He continued,"Advisors and fellow colleagues always said take care of yourself. If at any point you feel like it is affecting your family or your health you need to make a change. That time has come.""I wanted to stay and see this through but I just can't continue at this pace.

Let's not forget

well no kidding lol why take this long

He must be full of guilt and despair.

SchoolShootings so many repeated school shootings under Trump administration, most Republican lawmakers should resign who block to pass gun laws, Mitch McConnell amongst them foremost

They had a police officer employed at the school and he didnt even go inside to help even though he knew there was a shooter in there. His inaction killed many kids. Wonder how he lives with himself

The tide of school gun violence seriously needs to be checked. Everything that will contribute to reversing the menace should be welcome.

I can't begin to imagine the horror this man relives every day of his life recalling the students he must have known who are dead because of gutless politicians.

How is anything this guy’s fault?

PTSD. So help him.

Good. He did not protect his kids.

He had nothing to do with what happened. It was guns, Florida, and Republicans that did that.

Don't blame him one bit. The dude (hell, the entire school) has been through Hell and back. If this is what he feels is best for his mental well-being, then I hope he's right. I hope he and everyone else there has access to whatever psychologic healthcare they may need.

Can’t blame him on bit. Not for a second.

He needs to be monitored. Maybe he's going through PTSD though. Who knows.

What ever came from him stepping down as the football coach? Was there anything to come from that?
