Health Minister Simon Harris has warned that the HSE cannot allow a 'runaway train' develop regarding the cost of recruitment of additional staff

The Minister for Health has warned that the health service cannot allow a "runaway train" regarding the cost of recruitment of additional staff.

Speaking at the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation’s conference in Trim, he said it was very important the HSE should live within its budget and apply a degree of common sense and responsibility towards the taxpayer. He insisted the recruitment pause had been misrepresented in some quarters, adding that "the pause is not a pause".

He stated that it was not unreasonable to expect a health service manager paid by the taxpayer to comply with the wishes of the Government, the Oireachtas and budgetary plans - as when they fail to do so, there were significant overruns in the health service which could not be tolerated. Responding to the Minister's speech, INMO President Martina Harkin-Kelly described the recruitment pause for nurses and midwives as the elephant in the room, and was applauded when she said it had to go.

No he has to save money for the runaway train that is the children’s hospital twat

It took a while for that penny to drop

10 hours in Beaumont Hospital A +E last night, runaway train my bollox SimonHarris

Like the hospital and the broadband

Recruit & look after your staff properly and stop paying over the odds for agency staff

Lordie, bit late in the game worrying about cost now isn't it 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 This guy!!

Says the fucker building the worlds most expensive hospital 🥴

However the gravy train that is the National Children’s Hospital, Rural Broadband & very shortly directly elected mayors of cities that don’t need them, will now be upgrade to express trains.

Recruiting additional staff will not be the solution for 'runway train development'. A better structure needs to be put in and the government's contribution count on these problems.

Correct Richard but that will never happen THEY would never even consider that 🚽

But the runaway train of the children's hospital is ok. No point in building a hospital if you can't staff it SimonHarrisTD you pleb.

How much are the party/personal advisors milking us for

Indeed! They require the money to cover the unending HSE negligence compensation cases, overruns in capital projects and so forth but, hey, Jimmy in Ballyfaraway will have hi speed broadband. Maybe. I mean who knows, with Fine Gael in Government!

Backline staff need to be got rid of. Then we'd have plenty of money for frontline staff but of course those who that really run the HSE (The Unions) would never allow that.

Do we pay our doctors more or less than in Europe.

By God, he’s good! Put him in charge of the economy!🤪

There are to many people walking around doing nothing with name tags around there necks in the HSE.

But you can let a runaway train take off with the children's hospital?

But build the most expensive hospital in the world!! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Why doesn't he and his cronies take a pay cut then?

But just spend a couple of billion on broadband!
