The Senate has summoned the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, for briefing on the current state of healthcare facilities and services in Nigerian teaching hospitals.
He made reference to a report by Daily Trust Newspaper depicting poor healthcare facilities in the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital , Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital , University of Maidugun’ Teaching Hospital , Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano and University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.
Ajayi Borrofice , called for the establishment of a Teaching Hospital Commission which he said will help coordinate the services of teaching hospitals across the country. “We need to address this issue where you have patients lying on the floor and waiting for hours to be attended to. “How inadequate can funding be that there is no light, patients are lying on the floor and meanwhile, they are getting funding and allocation every year. And they are also getting revenue,” he said. This is not the first time health workers have raised alarm on the declining quality of services in Nigerian Teaching Hospitals amidst cases of overcrowding and lack of adequate funding and personnel necessary for optimal performance.
The usual cosmetic approach to damning issues. Stories and excuses continues. Naija, how not to be a country. NO VISION. ONLY EXISTING.
Minister for Health and Education should please tell us what they have done in 4years. This is not politics, I just want to be well informed.
The poor minister is hapless in this matter.
