Coca-Cola was allowed to exert influence over research it funded under agreements with several public universities

Using Freedom of Information Act requests, researchers at the University of Cambridge identified more than 87,000 pages of documents that included five agreements between Coca-Cola and universities in the U.S. and Canada. The provisions gave Coca-Cola the right to review research in advance of the publications. It also was allowed to have control over data and disclosure of any study results.

Researchers are concerned about the consequences of terminating corporate-funded public health research early, saying that doing so could stifle getting critical health information out to the public. The findings also support concerns by nutrition experts that the food industry may be following in the footsteps of the tobacco industry by shaping research to its benefit.By signing up you agree to receive email newsletters or alerts from POLITICO. Sounds the university issue..no accountability, just want money

Not uncommon at all. Companies give universities money in exchange for their desired research results.

hoyawolf Misleading. Manuscript review prior to publication is standard, especially for non-federal sponsors. Allowing company to contol data/results depends on ownership of data/results and materials.

MackenzieMays Here's an idea: all research should have the donors to that research listed on the papers, even before the abstract.

It is amazing that WarrenBuffett is still alive with that diet! He has a natural health we can all be envious of! I will never understand why people obsess over Warren's eating habits, or the cost of his home. These things are hardly the reason he makes money. His genius is in his understanding of the values proposition & consumer response coefficient. The bread and the fish of Jesus was for the soul.

Other people's limbs, that is. At least they had their (now destroyed) attack tunnels and all those rockets. Who needs health care, anyway? Hamas spends millions on bombs and guns while their people suffer. Excuse me? 1.) This is America. 2.) Gaza just bombed Israel with 600 rockets. 3.) We have our own 'funding gaps' ranging from Health to Food to Education to Housing, and back right here in the USA. We blew up Gaza, they can suffer.
