The issue of biosecurity is set to become increasingly important to prevent alien invasive pathogens entering the UK habitat
In Europe, the pathogen has caused widespread damage and has killed and infected millions of ash trees. As well as estimating the loss from losing an economically important species, the £15bn figure takes in account the loss of"ecosystem services", such as water purification and carbon sequestration. The authors, writing in the Current Biology journal, estimated that the total cost of ash dieback would be 50 times greater than the annual value of trade in live plants to and from Britain.
I found this sign whilst doing an Ash Dieback survey a while back and it summed my feelings up pretty well. Hopefully a pot of money is quickly made available for local authorities to prevent as much disruption to services/potential loss of life as possible.
Stop importing trees.
Nobody ever mentions ivy killing oak trees. The simple solution is to clip it at the foot of the tree. Sounds like small-fry, but take a look at where ivy is strangling and suffocating our beloved trees. There are literally MILLIONS across our countryside environment oaktree
Some needs a root and branch investigation into these figures - money does not grow on trees
This is a sensationalist estimate of imagined cost to the environment. These so called experts are living in a world of their own. True cost...zero !
Not as much as HS2 then
Integration clearly doesn’t work.... 😱🥴
There’s some tree surgeons somewhere putting a down payment on a private jet. On a totally unconnected matter, are any MP’s execs of any arborist firms? 😂
Why are we trying to save it Just plant something in their place thats less disease ridden.... alot of our trees are roo old now and is the reason they fall on roads.... invest in new trees i say
See even uncontrolled tree immigration is spreading diseases everything and everyone should be vaccinated entering the country
