Why should the elderly, having contributed vast sums of money throughout their employment lives, not expect someone to care for them in their extreme old age. What are this generation of working adults going to expect when they are old?

That is a myth that pensioners are wealthy. Only a very small majority have a private income, where they do not require a state pension. It supposed to be the golden years once you reached pension age, so why should not have a peace and rest after having toiled for many years

They are not. At 50 year of age we still contribute for another 25 to 30 years and started contributing at 15.
All these 'young' 'funding' pensions, many of these fuckers don't get a proper job until their 30's whilst sponging and racking up massive loan debts etc and paying it back over god knows how many years. Full of shit.

Excuse me but I’ve paid taxes and NI OVER 52yrs of fulltime working. Never claimed benefits (dole) Etc Only had maybe 20days sick in those 52 yrs of work. Now retired I’m paying £3000 + per annum in Tax on the pensions I responsibly contributed towards. whose paying for who here?

What happened to all the taxes today’s elderly paid during their working life. It went to pay for the previous generations care in old age plus the healthcare and education of today’s young adults. They have done their bit so now it’s for their successors to step up.

This is really dumb. The answer is because the government chose not to set up a free standing investment fund, instead it chose to use working age pension contributions for day to day expenditure, pension payments therefore come out of day to day expenditure also.
So can we just pay for what we use? Great! I won’t need to pay for schools or NHS then. Big rebate coming my way.
Pensions? Are they funding pensions. Surely a lifetime of national insurance contributions have funded pensions.

The system is based on paying in for a number of years, then getting paid for a few. It is how it works. The problem is e.g an immigrant arrives with 4 kids(or has them after arriving) pays 10 years in and still gets paid (lower pension more handouts) Every person arriving should

I started full time work at 15. Had already paid my full stamp contribution by the age of 42. Continued working and paying stamp until 63, that’s almost 20 years of paying into a pot id already filled. Tell me again that I didn’t contribute more than my fair share

how much tax to young taxpayers pay? peak earning years are 40-55, they are the years people are most heavily taxed, no straight out of school earning £20k. Any tying of tax to spending is very difficult when the top 1% pay 29% of income tax.
