If your baby hasn’t been vaccinated, should your family travel during a measles outbreak?

By Mary Beth Gahan April 29 at 7:00 AM Recently, my family was presented with an opportunity to make a once-in-a-lifetime trip to a country in Southeast Asia. We mapped out our flights and chose a hotel. Then, alarmed by the recent resurgence of measles, we checked the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — and learned there had been several reported cases of measles in the country.

Travelers to countries with outbreaks — including Ukraine, Israel and the Philippines — brought the disease back to the United States and infected others who were not vaccinated, said Kristen Nordlund, a CDC spokeswoman. A large number of cases are concentrated in Washington state and New York City. Infants younger than 6 months are not given the MMR vaccine, Jain said, because it is believed there are still antibodies present that have been passed on from the vaccinated mother in the third trimester. Because the MMR shot contains a live virus, the antibodies would make the vaccine ineffective.

She plans to fly next month from Yokosuka, Japan, where her husband is stationed, to the United States to introduce her family to the baby, whose name is Rory. “Flying with an infant is stressful enough, never mind worrying about all the germs,” Correia said. If a child has not been vaccinated, is older than 12 months and international travel is planned, the initial MMR shot and a booster can be given within 28 days of each other. Traces of immunity are detectable within a few days, according to the CDC, and a person can be fully protected within two to three weeks.

Jain also said putting a cover on an infant car seat and surgical masks on older children could help protect against the measles when in public.

No.

Stop vaccinating & the outbreaks ends.

Hold people who spread the outbreak accountable. If someone dies because of ignorance they should be tried for aggravated homicide. -Muninn

If your baby hasn't been vaccinated your family should report you to welfare for child abuse.

Think TheDemocrats and their globalist Open border policy’s... illegal immigrants are brining it. GlobalWarming is a front to pay to develop the third world on the backs of Americans to save the elites asses as the world populations double. To control the population immigration

Its just measles. We all used to get it as kids. Just go!

No. Measles is highly contagious and may cause encephalitis and death in sensitive populations like babies.

First, stop by the doctor to get a sanity check

Not wise if you are going to an area of known high incidence/prevalence of the disease.

Shouldn’t be allowed in any public place until vaccinations are done.

Stupid question. Next.

I'd NEVER put my children in that danger.

Traveling with a baby too young to be vaccinated is nutcase level negligent action -- DHS ought to seize child for its safety if someone travels with an infant right at the moment.

Probably not

Check this out and RT

Yes, to the doctor to get them vacccinated.

Travelling they can pick up more than measles - their kids won't thank them for their lack of duty of care. Hope they sue them later in life.
