A new capsule tricks your stomach into feeling full by releasing thousands of particles that absorb water and swell into gel pieces. It was recently cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration; could it be used to treat obesity?

A new capsule was recently cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration to help adults who are overweight or obese shed some pounds when used along with diet and exercise, according to the biotechnology company Gelesis, which developed the product.

Research finding that this weight management approach has a"strong safety and efficacy profile" was presented Monday at the 26th European Congress on Obesity in Glasgow, Scotland. The research was funded by Gelesis.Obesity among all US adults reaches all-time high The company announced FDA clearance this month and noted that the product, called Plenity, is the only prescription weight management product cleared for use by overweight adults with a body mass index of 25 or higher.

Hes called weight loss interventions like Plenity"the wave of the future," and she hopes the product soon might be approved for use in children."I see so many obese patients, and I really don't have options for them," she said."And then we have something like this, which is literally just a cellulose that you swallow and you excrete. I think the biggest problem for me in pediatrics is going to be able to get the younger kids to be able to swallow the pills.

Gezz.. Stop being lazy walk for 45 mins 3 to 4 times a week and cutdown on eating large portions. Plus, it’s beneficial mentally being outside in the fresh open air.

Trump is fast-tracking diet pills?

Not shoving your face could treat obesity.

So you want me to trust the FDA🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It could, but has it been tested sufficiently thoroughly? Sounds a bit iffy to me.

Or obese people should just go on a diet and exercise

...or you could just stop eating so many calories you fatty. Drink only water, calorie count with any number of apps, and start any kind of exercise when you're more confident. If this is a difficult concept to achieve, you have deeper addiction problems that need addressing.

Is cnn owned by the pharmaceutical companies? They are always promoting different drugs. We know the pharmaceutical companies pushed for Obama so he could cause the opioid epidemic. So maybe they own the Democrats media networks as well u never know

What could go wrong?

How about making nutritious food more affordable.

So... anorexia pills.

Sounds like a recipe for dehydration

PLEASE CONTINUE TO BE GOOD HUMAN BEING. I'VE STARTED TO BECOME HUMAN BEING. Please GROW-UP till the level of CHILDREN.We have very less time to become GOOD HUMAN BEING.Please try to do it FAST.

CNN FakeNews propaganda Whales and dolphins have doing this for years!

Chris_Hawkey haven’t you been asking for something like this for years?!?! 😱

Dear Brothers & Sisters........ Such a great Capsule.......We're grateful to the scientists you developed this.......Could you please disclose his/her name ...... they are real STARS than our so called Star........who are having all the BAD habits.......spoiling our Kids & Youth.

How about better understanding of nutrition, enjoying better food, and moving more - rather than simply “feeling full” on a drug.

Thats awesome👍

WTF - Would 'eating less' not be a better solution?

World: Fast Food is the most unhealthy way to fill up. GlaxoSmithEliKline:. Hold our opiates

Here I was thinking that the need to always want to eat was controlled by the brain.

That is gonna slide right on out the back end in a really uncomfortable way. Wonder what it'll do to the sewer pipes.

The hicks will still want to eat fried stuff though. They're jamming up our medical system with their type 2 diabetes

From the description of it. this seems more likely to promote anorexia 😨

This is what CNN is covering it’s no wonder their lowest in the ratings why don’t you try covering the best president we’ve ever had for this United States your ratings will skyrocket

It seems like a good idea in theory. How about approving it for people with BMIs over 40?

Which will later cause stomach ulcers, internal blistering and ultimate to cancer. Way to go Developed nation's to make more cancer and obesity money. If your main motto is to treat obesity, ban the fast food chains. Oh LoL 🍭, developed nation's don't have guts to do that.😎

Sure ya can! Telling a fat person 'here's something you can eat that will help make you unfat' is a slam dunk.

And banned in Europe for obvious reasons
