The incoming class, comprised of 82% Ohio residents, was joined by family and friends to witness the symbolic placing of the white coat on each student.

ROOTSTOWN, Ohio – Northeast Ohio Medical University celebrated a major milestone, as it welcomed 192 students into its College of Medicine during the annual white coat ceremony on Friday. The event marked the beginning of the students’ journey to becoming physicians.

NEOMED President John Langell expressed pride in the fact that the university’s graduates are primarily from Ohio and go on to serve communities throughout the state and beyond. “We’re very proud of the fact that our graduates are from Ohio and for Ohio—doctors who provide health care for the people in communities throughout the Akron, Canton, Cleveland, and Youngstown areas—as well as throughout the state and beyond,” Langell said.

NEOMED’s College of Medicine has a long history of training physicians who practice in their home state. The most recent graduating class had a 98% residency match, with 55% of the graduates choosing to pursue their careers in Ohio. The university’s partnerships with nationally ranked health care systems across urban, suburban and rural areas provide students with valuable real-world experience.

Celebrating the 50th year since its founding, NEOMED is comprised of four Colleges — Medicine, Pharmacy, Graduate Studies and the Bitonte College of Dentistry. Its programs offer Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees and research opportunities in other medical and life science areas.
