Public health patients face long surgery wait times. It's time for private organizations to step in.

Much as the authorities do not want to admit that they are struggling with surgeries, individuals and private organisations should also come forward and offer to help.Department of health failures continue to haunt the public, especially the disadvantaged communities who do not have access to private health care.

The woman cannot look after her two children and she will be in pain for another year as she has been scheduled for surgery next May.I remember in 2021, when I was working for the Pelo Foundation, an organisation founded by doctors that offers free heart surgeries to children suffering from congenital heart disease .

Be that as it may, what brought relief was that the foundation was assisting some of the children, who were on the waiting list at government hospitals.I am still proud to have played a role in bringing smiles to different families in the Eastern Cape, where the patients came from.When I left the foundation in 2022, I realised it was going to be hard to assist more children.
