An Australian CEO is on the mend but still “in a potentially dangerous spot” after waking up from an induced coma following an almost fatal attack on the side of the road in the US.

An Australian CEO is awaiting medial reports to determine his precarious position in a US hospital after he was allegedly left to die on the side of a road in San Francisco following a vicious attack.

Colin Bettles was on July 4 walking back to his San Francisco hotel during a solo work trip when he was viciously set upon. Picture: Facebook “He’s out of a coma but he is still in hospital and we’re waiting on a neurologist report to see how his recovery is going to be,” Mr Weidemann told the West Australian.

“There has been a significant amount of people in contact with us following news of Colin’s injuries and it shows just how much people respect and care for him,” Mr Large said. Mr McCormack called the Department of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Minister Penny Wong to help track him down. Picture: Supplied.

Hospital doctors were initially unable to identify Mr Bettles without any ID and his loved ones were therefore unidentifiable and uncontactable for four days.
