It’s tear-jerking watching Toheebat wail over the plight of three-year-old daughter, Husseinat.

The tears have become habitual so much that she was inconsolable as our correspondent tried in futility to drown her worries in affectionate embrace.

She stated, “Suddenly, she began to develop high temperature and cold at night. Her temperature was high and she couldn’t sleep. Then, she began to lose appetite. It was at that point that I knew that the issue was getting out of hand. That was when we headed to the hospital. Odor said his son complained of pain in his left eye and he checked it to know what was wrong with it.

He said, “As a parent, the trauma that one goes through in such a situation is not something that can be explained. If one takes a walk to the Oncology Department of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, one will see the pains of children battling cancer. The cost of treatment is high. If not for the interventions of the foundation, many people would have died. It was someone who told me about the foundation. If not for them, I would have lost my child to cancer.

“Having taking medications, he felt better and we thought that was all. He took ill again and we treated him. When the symptoms were recurring, we decided to take him to another hospital where he was diagnosed with skin cancer. She narrated that she first noticed that whenever he ate, he would vomit but she didn’t pay much attention to it.

The mother stated, “The most difficult time of my life was watching with fear that may baby would die and hoping that she would overcome the sickness. The mental trauma of seeing other children die was fearful. I lost weight from running around and losing sleep. On his part, Odor said his case was that of fear mixed with hope as his regular word was “it is well”.

“I need a job or a business to start all over again. I had to leave Togo where we were living to return to Nigeria to give him a better treatment as the foundation offered to help. The experience is not something I can explain but I don’t pray that anyone around me should go through such.” Perfect also told our correspondent that he was fine as he beamed with smiles. He said, “I am fine. My eye no longer pains me.”He said, “I am fine and my stomach doesn’t pain me again. I play with my friends in school and I don’t have pains like before.” It was the same case for Emmanuel who shyly said he was fine when asked how he was doing., disclosed how the disease milked her and her family dry.
