LONDON MARATHON organisers paid tribute to Vikki Orvice by naming the race media centre after her.
SunSport’s much-loved athletics writer, who died from cancer in February aged 56, covered 18 London Marathons since 2000.More than 250 journalists and broadcasters from around the world reported on the race from the centre close to the finishing line along The Mall. Widow Ian Ridley, a distinguished sports writer and author, says he is incredibly proud Vikki’s memory lives on.
“Vikki had no fear or favour as an athletics journalist. She always loved London Marathon week and would have loved getting stuck into the Farah and Gebrselassie row.” Vikki was the first female staff sports reporter on a national tabloid newspaper when she joined The Sun in 1995.
