South Australia has recorded its 13th case of meningococcal this year after a 28-year-old man was diagnosed with the contagious disease.

A man is in hospital and multiple people who he came in contact with have been told to take clearance antibiotics after he was diagnosed with a contagious disease.

Twelve of the 13 meningococcal cases in South Australia so far this year have been serogroup B, with the other case being serogroup Y. The number of meningococcal cases in South Australia so far this year is slightly higher than the same period in 2023, when 11 cases were reported.
