CANCER remains the second leading cause of death among Filipinos next to heart disease in 2022, and in 2023 with lung, breast and liver cancers topping the mortality list as reported by the Philippine Statistics Authority and the World Health Organization International Agency for Research on Cancer Global Cancer Observatory, respectively.

The Philippine Institute for Development Studies reported 25,000 cancer cases every year, with at least 9,000 deaths annually. Breast cancer cases numbered 9,500. According to its senior researcher Valerie Gilbert Ulep, '90 percent of cancer cases are caused by lifestyle and diet factors, while 10 percent are due to genetic disorders.'At least 9,000 cancer patients die yearly.

The center can provide a range of support services, including counseling, nutritional guidance, pain management, rehabilitation and palliative care, to improve the overall well-being and quality of life for patients and their families. These services offer a comprehensive approach to cancer care, focusing on enhancing patients' resilience and coping mechanisms throughout their cancer journey.
