Geneseo, N.Y. (WHAM) — Many may choose to head to lakes to enjoy the warm weather, but a health warning is in effect for one popular spot in Livingston County.

The Livingston County Department of Health issued an advisory June 21, 2024 about harmful algal blooms on Conesus Lake. A harmful algal bloom advisory is in place for part of Conesus Lake.

"They can take on different forms," Grove said. "It can look like spilled green paint on the water, it can look like more like a pea soup, it can look streaky with green streaks, it can take on different forms." Grove said exposure can cause a wide range of reactions in people, but it can be much worse for animals.

People should avoid the water where HABs have formed but, Henchen hopes people can still enjoy the lake this summer.
