The inquest heard his registrar, Dr Christopher Morris, examined her and called his boss for advice. He disputed having a conversation with a nurse who said, in her own statement to the inquest, that she “had a gut feeling about Pippa” and asked Morris if he was going to organise a chest X-ray for her.
Buckmaster told the inquest that he would have preferred Morris to escalate the case to him at this stage, or for him to have called him when Pippa’s clinical records showed she deteriorated around midnight, even though he didn’t know if this would have saved her.
