Kelly Estrada and Garrett Henderson, the owners of the Sugar & Rhyme Coffeehouse in downtown Elgin, are the recipients of a $10,000 grant from American Express and Main Street America. Sugar & Rhyme Coffeehouse in downtown Elgin is one of 500 small businesses across the United States to be awarded a $10,000 grant from American Express and Main Street America.

A free pet wellness event being hosted by state Sen. Cristina Castro, D-Elgin, and Anderson Humane will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, in the main lobby of Building F at Elgin Community College. “As a dog owner, I know the important role pets play in our families,” Castro said in the release. “This free event is a great opportunity to connect with the leading animal welfare organization in our community, meet other animal lovers and get your pets up-to-date on essential vaccines.”Hillbilly Rockstarz will be performing July 17 at Geneva Park District’s Concerts in the Park in River Park. Geneva Park District’s Concerts in the Park series will be held at 7 p.m.

A special hike for parents with strollers will be held by the Kane County Forest Preserve District from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Muirhead Springs Forest Preserve at 42W855 Bahr Road in Hampshire.
