For nine months, McKayla Kennard joked that she and her younger sister, Adrianna Kennard, were expecting “cousin twins.” Then, on June 18, the siblings, who live in Akron, Ohio, welcomed their babies eight hours apart — and in the same birthing pool. “None of it was planned,” McKayla, 24, tells TODAY.com, noting that she and Adrianna, 21, also found out they were pregnant on the same day. McKayla's pregnancy was planned, while Adrianna's was a happy surprise.

“They were like, ‘You can either hang out here, or labor at home,’” Adrianna recalls. Adrianna chose the latter, only she headed to McKayla’s place instead of her own. She figured it would be nice to give her sister a hug and meet her new nephew. By the time Adrianna and her boyfriend, Dustin Kaltwasser, got to McKayla’s house, she says her contractions were coming hard and fast. Though Adrianna had planned for a hospital birth, she couldn’t fathom getting back in the car.
