FACT CHECK: Does Nigeria Truly Have A Surplus Of Doctors, As Claimed By Ngige? | Sahara Reporters ...data from WHO, over 45% of WHO Member States report to have less than 1 physician per 1,000 populations; Nigeria, as expected, is part of them READ MORE:

Chris Ngige, Nigeria's Minister of Labour and Employment, caused quite a stir on Wednesday when he claimed the country has enough doctors to meet the medical demands of its huge population., Ngige said doctors were free to leave the country because the country has excess and can afford to share with other countries.

“They are surplus in their country. We have a surplus in the medical profession in our country. I can tell you this. It is my area, we have excess. We have enough, more than enough, quote me. It is not the first time a member of President Muhammadu Buhari's cabinet would be make such a claim. In September 2018, Professor Isaac Adewole, Miniter of Health,“There is no serious shortage of doctors in Nigeria; people are free to disagree with me but I will tell you what the situation is across in Nigeria and many other African countries," he had said.

WHO Several still to be fixed in a good wage at government hospitals or good private hospitals that know their worth.

WHO The truth is usually bitter. Have the public hospitals in Nigeria employed all our youny graduate doctors? The young doctors are here and there subjected to slavery by private businessmen who establish hospitals and employ them and pay them peanuts. We have several doctors

WHO Only a foolish person would believe Ngige, what a clueless man

WHO Will you take this man serious I use to respect him so much during his rain Anambra as gov. I lost it with him when he said N30,000 is enough as a living wage for a family of 4 in Nigeria😨😨.

WHO Hmmmmmmm, Ngige is not helping at all.

WHO Where are they? Go to any government hospital, Federal or State; you will see the hell few doctors employed are passing through. They often overwork because they are short of staff.

WHO All i know is Dr.Ngige domestic staff needs to be investigated for putting tramadol in his coffee before the interview.

WHO I believe Dr. Ngige has a lot on his head...so saying we have surplus of medical practitioners is just a bit crazy. How can we have 1 physician to 1000 patients..?
