THE Department of Health reported a 10-percent increase in dengue cases nationwide on Monday.Dengue cases climbed from 5,547 between May 5 and 18 to 6,082 cases from May 19 to June 1, the DoH said.Despite a temporary drop to 4,689 cases from June 2 to 15, the DoH warned that late reports could alter the figures.'One solution to dengue, while basic in principle, needs collective and sustained action.

'The health secretary can declare national or international epidemics, except when national security is at risk, and local health offices can declare an outbreak if supported by sufficient scientific evidence from disease surveillance, epidemiologic, environmental and laboratory investigations.
