Markise Outing went to Southern Manatee Fire Department Station 2 on May 20 seeking medical attention for a 6-year-old girl.

A Florida man has been charged after bringing an overheated child to a Manatee County fire station in May.that 24-year-old said Outing told paramedics that the child was his girlfriend's daughter. Medical staff determined she was not breathing and in cardiac arrest with a core body temperature of 107.2. She was pronounced dead that night.

In an interview with detectives, deputies reported Outing stated the child was overheated after playing in a park. However, after finding inconsistencies in his story, detectives said they were able to determine the girl was in Outing's vehicle in the parking lot of his work for several hours. It was also determined Outing picked up the girl from school and drove to the parking lot around 2:45 p.m.

Investigators said she was left in the car with the windows rolled up while temperatures rose to more than 115 degrees. An autopsy revealed the girl died as a result of extreme heat and detectives said they are still waiting on a toxicology report.
