Today the Alabama Department of Public Health announced a contract with the Lowndes County Unincorporated Wastewater Program Sewer Board.

LOWNDES COUNTY, Ala. - Some Lowndes County residents are moving a step closer to having septic tanks installed at their homes.

On Friday, the Alabama Department of Public Health announced a contract with the Lowndes County Unincorporated Wastewater Program Sewer Board.environmental health assessment created to analyze health risks related to sewage exposure from failing septic systems. That will help to prioritize installations or repairs for those most at risk of being exposed to raw sewage.

The health department said it will share the results of the ranking system with the sewer board after assessments have been completed. The sewer board will then hire a licensed soil professional to test the soil of the selected homes before hiring a licensed septic system installer to install a new system.

ADPH is urging Lowndes County residents to fill out the assessment immediately because the number of septic systems installed is limited by the available funding.
