Both PCR and antigen tests can be performed on a blood sample, and if positive, indicate that an individual has been recently infected with dengue virus. Other mosquito-borne viruses, such as West Nile and Zika virus, can cause a similar disease to dengue, so additional testing for these viruses may also be required if dengue tests are negative.Unfortunately, no antiviral exists to treat dengue once a person is infected.
