Warning issued to watch for symptoms as illness can kill one in ten if it takes hold

A fresh warning has been issued as more cases of a potentially lethal disease have been discovered in Brits returning home. The Foreign Office-backed Travel Health Pro website disclosed that 14 instances of the deadly meningococcal disease have been identified in individuals returning from Saudi Arabia, including some in the UK.

Invasive meningococcal disease is a significant cause of meningitis and septicaemia. The illness often progresses rapidly, with around one in ten succumbing to it. The bacteria invade the body, causing an acute severe bacterial infection.
