The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has activated a national cholera emergency centre after the outbreak of the disease in the country. As of June 24, there have been 1,528 suspected cholera cases and 53 deaths across 31 states and 107 local government areas, with a case fatality rate of 3.

As of June 24, there have been 1,528 suspected cholera cases and 53 deaths across 31 states and 107 local government areas, with a case fatality rate of 3.5% since the beginning of the year. Dr Jide Idris, the Director-General of NCDC, has expressed fear that the situation might be compounded as the rainy season intensifies.

Giving an update on the cholera outbreak and the state's response, the health commissioner said it has spread to seven local government areas.
