EUGENE, Ore. — Indianapolis runners Cole Hocker and Lynna Irby-Jackson climbed closer Saturday night to making their second Olympic team.and 400 meters in track and field’s U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Hocker slipped through an opening along the rail of the home stretch and sprinted to victory in the first semifinal, clocking 3:37.89.Jake Wightman, of Britain races to the line ahead of Cole Hocker, of United States to win a men's 1,500-meter semifinal at the 2020 Summer Olympics, Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan.

Irby-Jackson, a 12-time state champion at Pike High School, won her semifinal in 50.17. It was her second-fastest since 2018 – when she won an NCAA title in 49.80 as a Georgia freshman – and ranked fifth overall.Lynna Irby-Jackson wins a heat women's 400-meter run during the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Team Trials Friday, June 21, 2024, in Eugene, Ore.

In semifinals of the 100 meters, Texas A&M’s Semira Killebrew, who set a state record while at Brebeuf Jesuit, was 20th out of 27 in 11.31.
