As an Iraq veteran, Rep. Seth Moulton said that his experience with single-payer health care made him hesitant to back any plan that would boot Americans off of their private insurance plans

Newly declared presidential candidate Seth Moulton criticized his Democratic competitors Monday for pushing the idea of single-payer health care, citing what he called an imperfect experience at the Veterans Affairs.

“I think I'm the only candidate who actually gets single-payer health care,” the Massachusetts congressman said in an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” He qualified his statement by adding that, like his 18 opponents in the 2020 primary, “I think health care is a right. I think every American should have access to good affordable health care.

“I made a commitment to continue getting my own health care at the VA when I was elected to Congress. That's single-payer, and I'll tell you — it's not perfect,” he said. “ So if I'm elected, I'm not going to force you off your private health care plan.” The question of whether the U.S. should eliminate private insurers during any transition to a universal health care model has sparked a divide among Democrats running for president, and created an opening for Republicans to label the party as proponents of socialism.

Where have we herd that before? If you like your health insurance you can keep your health insurance - Obama

Please, step down.

I have Medicare and I love it!

The VA isn't an example of how single payer should work - look at improved and expanded Medicare instead.

Nope. Sit down.

Bye

Not that I would have voted for him before... but not a chance now.

How does a person sleep at night when they believe that people who can’t afford healthcare should just not have it? How do you cast a vote to take healthcare away from human beings? It blows my mind.

The TriCare/VA systems are by some measures the most socialized care in the world outside of Cuba. TriCare is not “insurance” its an agreed upon payment structure modeled directly on Medicaid. I wonder how many vets/act duty think socialized care is a threat to their freedom. 👀

And since he gets VA healthcare he doesn’t really know how expensive commercial insurance is. I paid 11k last year and had an annual exam( covered under ACA) and ophthalmology appointment and didn’t even meet my deductible.

I fear we maybe seeing a Russian/Trump puppet, and I'm sure it's just the beginning to sow dissension among Democrats like they did between Bernie/ Hillary supporters. Please Dems don't fall for, Russian bots will be working overtime to reselect Trump be purposeful wise

Moulton tried to stop Nancy from being Speaker. Shame!

Seth Moulton 2020 “Trying is hard”

Oh look, another white guy.

Isn’t health insurance ultimately about you and your doctors, the Insurance company is just the proxy. They don’t perform any medical procedures, I’m sure all the doctors who get paid by private companies will have a new employer.

i guess he's never heard of pete buttigieg?

Moultom’s reason is extremely suspect. I bet that he has a lucrative offer to work in some way for the health insurance industry.

Lobby campaign contributions: Pharmaceuticals/Health Products = $82,660.00, Health Professionals = $79,077.00, Insurance = $72,375.00 and more I'm certain.

Who?

Hey Dingus, there are over 40 million on Medicare right now.

Wow. He already lost my vote. Medicare4All UniveralHealthcare

I'd like to talk to him about how 'great' my experience has been with my private plan.

Moulton may be the Democratic candidate to watch. Not saying I am looking for an alternative to Trump at this point but, I will be listening just in case.

. as a Veteran myself, I wish Moulton's outings of the so called bad experience with the VA could/should be identified. I've seen nothing in 18 yrs using it as my health care. Maybe he should work to improve rather than toss barbs it's way!

so, we aren't supposed to innovate because current systems are broken? does moulton know that we pay for our military with single payer? So the answer is management, not going backwards and keeping the expensive middle man in place.

Well, Seth is not going to get my help or vote...

Watch out Seth - Dems will savage you. You must not oppose their dogma

What is his experience with single payer exactly?

He’s a non starter.

Be prepared to follow the money.

And just like that, hes out

What a scumbag. VA healthcare is ranked higher in customer satisfaction than private insurance. This dude is lying to further an agenda

He's wasting time. I think he's trying to assist Trump/Pence.

The Rs have been defunding the VA repeatedly. They wanted to make it the example that Moulton is using it for here. This is a deliberate fraud being visited on the American people, with our veterans as the victims.

I understand. My experience with private plans have not been poor as well

lol drop out

We need universal healthcare where else you have a problem healthwise you can go to the doctor and be taken care of if the Saudis can afford that we should be able to afford that instead we put it into the military and private prisons
