Federal health authorities have put aged care providers on notice after COVID-19 cases hit an 18-month high in Australian facilities.

Residential aged care facilities nationally are dealing with the highest numbers of COVID-19 cases among residents in 18 months as vaccination coverage wanes.

There were 2888 active cases reported in residents and 1259 in staff across 487 facilities as of June 12. Anderson will, on Tuesday, host a webinar for providers about COVID-19 management, focused on how to book vaccination clinics and control outbreaks.“Every residential aged care provider has a responsibility to ensure that they are continuing to do everything possible to prevent, prepare for and reduce the impact of a COVID-19 outbreak,” Anderson said.

COVID-19 has accounted for 3.9 per cent of all deaths in aged care since December 2021, but has only accounted for 2 per cent of deaths in residents since the start of the year.
