Cancer inspired businessman Danny to get back in the saddle and buy a restaurant

After selling the multi-million pound recruitment enterprise he’d built up over 25 years to spend a year jetting to some of the world’s most exotic destinations with wife Christine, Scots entrepreneur Danny McIntyre seemingly had it all.

Rather than become “that retired guy who sits about reading the paper and takes the dog for a walk,” Paisley-born Danny decided to grasp an opportunity that arose on his own doorstep in Kilmacolm – the picturesque Renfrewshire village he’d called home for 15 years. With the support of Christine, he and the members of his team who share his passion and energy have given the restaurant a much-needed shot in the arm.

After that position became permanent, he was soon head-hunted by a national agency, charged with successfully establishing its presence in Scotland. By 2018, Primestaff had offices in Glasgow, Livingston and Edinburgh, a 50-strong workforce, and a turnover in excess of £12m. When he received a call advising that had to have a bone scan, however, it caused him to reassess what was important in life.

To repay Maggie’s Cancer Centre for all it did for him following his treatment, Danny set about organising from scratch a golf fundraising day at Kilmacolm Golf Club which raised £15,000. "I understand that going back to work wouldn’t be what everybody would do in my situation, but I feel lucky I’m still able to seize opportunities like this.”

"We believe we’ve added something new and exciting to the mix – and more competition drives standards but also gives more people a reason to visit. It’s the 26-year-old’s first head chef role, and he has already seized the opportunity, delivering new lunch and evening menus featuring fresh pizzas, pasta, sumptuous seafood and classic Italian dishes, as well as weekly specials.
