This summer, schools, YMCAs, military sites, public libraries, parks and recreation centers and other neighborhood organizations will become meal and nutrition hubs.

Elementary students from a San Diego Unified school attend an assembly in the school's courtyard in this undated photo.

The sites will offer free breakfast and lunch to children and teens along with nutrition education resources, reading activities for children, and food benefits for families to purchase groceries, according to city officials. "Public libraries are neighborhood hubs, and the San Diego Public Library is proud to work with our partners to bring these much-needed food resources to the community," San Diego Public Library Director Misty Jones said."SDPL meal sites will hold free programs, activities, storytimes and shows around lunchtime, nourishing children's minds and bodies and providing vital information for their parents and caregivers.
