A Lee County non-profit is hosting a golf tournament designed to bring more attention to rare diseases.MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A Lee County non-profit is hosting a golf tournament designed to bring more attention to rare diseases, the challenges they present, and the people they affect.

A disease is considered rare if it is affects fewer than 200,000 Americans. According to the National Institutes of Health , about 7,000 rare diseases affect nearly 30 million Americans; that equals about 1 in 10 Americans. About 72% of rare diseases are genetic, and 80% of those mutations are inherited. Rare diseases are often chronic, debilitating, progressive, and life-threatening., dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by rare diseases through education, advocacy and research. This is the 2nd annual Aces Fore Austin Golf Tournament.

The Aces Fore Austin golf tournament is named after Austin Terling, who died from a rare brain cancer at just 9-years-old.
