Image: iStockhas issued a call for heightened public vigilance following the confirmation of two additional Mpox cases in KwaZulu-Natal.and another in Gauteng last month. The National Institute for Communicable Diseases confirmed these new cases this week at Addington and St Augustine Hospitals.Foster Mohale, spokesperson for the Health Ministry, disclosed that all patients are men in their 30s.

Mpox, formerly known as Monkeypox, manifests as an acute illness marked by fever and flu-like symptoms, followed by a blister-like rash. Isolation of infected individuals until full recovery is crucial for preventing further transmission. Despite the low transmissibility of the virus, vigilance is essential to mitigate the risk of a broader outbreak.Compounding public health Mpox concerns, South Africa is currently in the midst of its annual influenza season, which commenced in late April.
