Risk factors are also increasing in children and young adults, the American Heart Association said.

The American Heart Association said two new scientific reports show heart disease and risk of stroke could affect at least 60% of adults in the U.S. within the next 30 years.The first report looked at trends based on the 2015 to March 2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and 2015 to 2019 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey.

Poor diet, inadequate physical activity and smoking are estimated to improve over time, the report said, but inadequate sleep will worsen.Obesity is expected to affect a third of all children by 2050, up from 20% in 2020. The highest increases are expected among children 2 to 5 years old and 12 to 19 years old.
