As the former culture editor at news and technology website CNET, I led a team that tracked movies, TV shows, online trends and science—from space and robotics to climate, AI and archaeology.

Instagram influencer Zara Shatavari may be made of pixels, but she still prioritizes healthy living. Visit her account and you’ll see photos of her bouncing on a yoga ball, relaxing outdoors at a tranquil tropical spa and lounging under the covers on a lazy Sunday morning. Given that she’s AI-generated, she doesn’t need to worry about wellness, but as a brand ambassador for a women’s supplement, it’s a good thing she does.

Judges for Miss AI, the world’s first pageant for virtual humans, on Monday named Shatavari as one of 10 finalists for the crown based on realism, poise and social media clout. Selected from more than 1,500 international entries, these 100% AI-generated contenders will now compete for the top three spots, with the winners announced later this month.

Shatavari lives in India and takes pride in her country’s customs. In one post, she wishes her followers a happy Diwali wearing a red sari in a room filled with the traditional holiday candles and clay lamps that symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. It’s an apt message for someone who bills herself as a warrior for those dealing with depression and polycystic ovary syndrome, both of which can be caused by hormonal imbalances.

“There's a lot of debate about AI's pros and cons, but I believe it's all about how we use it,” Shatavari’s creator Rahul Choudhry, co-founder of an Indian mobile ad agency, said in an interview. “AI is here to help humans, and Zara's purpose is to spread awareness. She has a celebrity-like aura because we noticed people tend to follow celebrities and join their causes.”The Fed Quietly ‘Admits’ Gold Is Replacing The Dollar As Collapse ‘Fear’ Predicted To Trigger A $15.

“What the awards have done is uncover creators none of us were aware of that have compelling backstories, along with talented creators behind them creating content for their fans,” Fanvue co-creator Will Monange said in a statement. “That's the beauty of the AI creator space. It's enabling creative people to enter the creator economy with their AI-generated creations without having to be the face themselves.
