Already a subscriber?Fitness star Steph Claire Smith, whose social media mastery helped land her on the Young Rich List, says chasing followers is fairly pointless if you have not engaged your audience.
Smith co-founded wellness app Kic with Laura Henshaw, a life-long friend whom she met when they were young models. They had both reached a low point, focusing on being thin at the expense of their health for the sake of the runway.Their original business started with an e-book, similar to the way in which Kayla Itsines built successful fitness app Sweat.
The e-book became an online fitness and food business, with the pair using a third-party operator to provide the tech. “Hands down, the biggest risk we have ever taken in our business to date was leaving that company and going off on our own because contractually, what it meant was we had to leave our entire database behind,” Smith recalls.“All of the content, everything was lost other than our Instagram account. That was all that we still had.”The friends stayed up late one night mapping out their next steps on the back of a napkin.
