Some of our coalition members are without a family doctor. We also feel the insecurity and problems inherent in that situation. However, we have some access to care through clinics and the emergency departments. Although it is not continuous care, we can see a doctor, as we await the promised medical hubs that will hopefully soon be accessible to all under the public system.
In Ontario, Premier Doug Ford stated in his plan to privatize surgeries that, “people would never pay with their credit card, only their Ontario Health Insurance Plan card” because, “there would be strong guardrails to protect patients from extra-billing and user fees.” The P.E.I. Health Coalition is not spreading misinformation, just vital information. We think it’s time for Islanders to better inform ourselves about the increased, costly privatization of our public provincial health-care system.
