On that day, a 71-year-old man died after waiting several hours in the overcrowded emergency department.The Tasmanian Government has confirmed it is looking at a range of external sites that could provide care options off site before the flu season hits.Dr Frank Nicklason, the chairman of Royal Hobart Hospital Staff Association, said the facility was considering sending some patients to Mary's Grange nursing home at Taroona.

It is understood the ageing site would need significant refurbishment and would require the urgent recruitment of new medical staff.
