A new report, released on Menstrual Hygiene Day by UNICEF and WHO, highlights the shortcomings in schools' management of menstrual health.

reveals that limited access to education, products, facilities, and proper disposal creates a significant barrier to girls' well-being and education. , only 11% of schools have bins for menstrual waste in girls' toilets, and a mere 12% provide menstrual products for free or for purchase. In addition, access to clean toilets and private spaces for changing menstrual products is also a significant issue in many countries across the continent.

Advocates say the challenges faced by menstruating Nigerian women are multi-faceted and demand a comprehensive menstrual health policy by the Nigerian government.
