Health officials have released an update on Covid in Ireland, which suggests that cases of the new 'FLiRT' variant are rising rapidly in the country.
The HPSC said: "So called ‘FLiRT’ lineages accounted for 36.1% of sequenced cases in Ireland and between week 15 and week 19 2024. These lineages included: LA.2, JN.1.16.1, KP.2 and KP.1.1" Medical professionals across the world reporting a rise in 'FliRT' cases and there are fears that the variants may be more transmissible and better at escaping prior immunity than previous waves, but there is little evidence that they are more severe than their predecessors.
