Local police received a tip from a Good Samaritan regarding the condition of the dogs, 15 Great Pyrenees and two collie-type dogs, on a property in Coaldale in poor condition.

Updated: May. 22, 2024, 1:05 a.m.PSPCA rescues 17 dogs, 2 birds and a turtle suffering from malnourishment and health issues from Schuylkill County property. The Pennsylvania SPCA on Monday rescued 17 dogs, some of them emaciated and suffering severe skin conditions, from a Schuylkill County property.

“The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of a Great Pyrenees is their beautiful, fluffy white coats,” said Julie Klim, CEO of the Pennsylvania SPCA. “But the dogs rescued yesterday are a stark contrast; instead of white fur, there was red, itchy, rough, bloody skin. This didn’t happen overnight, and sadly these animals have been suffering for some time. We take solace in the fact that they are safe now, and beginning their journey to learning how pets are meant to be treated.

The PSPCA reminds the public that its shelter and other shelters are crowded at this time of year and that it is always looking for potential adopters and fosters.
