SAN ANTONIO - Bexar County is facing a big challenge in suicide prevention. Since 2005, rates have increased across the nation, and here in Bexar County, it's up 33 percent.The Center for Health Care Services hosted its 'behavioral health and wellness conference' on Friday. It was for anyone in need of services ranging from 'substance use' and recovery, to youth mental health and more.
When it comes to tackling suicide prevention they say to be observant with loved ones, look for changes in behavior, and engage in reckless behavior.They also say that being direct also helps when addressing mental health and safety. The Center for Health Care Services also offers a program called Mental Health First Aid. It helps to train people on how to cope with a variety of issues -- and it's free.
