Charlotte Costello, was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, a type of soft tissue sarcoma in her womb, in November last year.
The 44-year-old Sligo woman, who previously worked as teacher at Summerhill College, is on her second regime of treatments after the first one didn’t work. Husband Jonathan said: “Charlotte is on a more intense regime at the moment to try to shrink [the tumour] and she has a couple more cycles to go with that to see if it’s working.”
Charlotte’s colleagues set up a GoFundMe page to help her with the treatment as she may have to fly to America as leiomyosarcoma is very rare.Jonathan told Extra.ie: “If this treatment she’s on doesn’t work, we want to go over to the States. “We’ve already emailed a hospital in New York and we’ve asked what details they want for a consultation, so we have to get stuff together from them.”Our Irish Mirror Sports Page - which brings you all your Irish and UK sports news - can be found here. The Irish Mirror Twitter account is @IrishMirror while our sports page is @MirrorSportIE.Charlotte was initially told that she had fibroids in her womb by the doctors before they finally diagnosed her with cancer.
