An ambulance provider based in Northern Ireland is raising funds for the region's first ever motorcycle ambulance to help support the health service.
Speaking to Belfast Live, Head of Service at MCP Medical, Glen Robertson, said: "We've always been ones to try and find a niche somewhere, trying to find out what is everywhere else in the UK that isn't here. It's known to people that, you know, the services here sort of fall slightly behind what you get in the mainland.
Glen said it's all about making sure first responders can be on an emergency scene as quickly as possible, as every second counts. Their aim is to raise the necessary funds then approach the Belfast Trust, before potentially rolling the emergency motorcycles out across Northern Ireland. "We understand the trusts are struggling with demand due to being overwhelmed and underfunded, as witnessed by Robin Swann only getting about half his budget. We want to be able to make an impact that doesn't cost the trusts to splurge out more money.
Recently, the importance of such motorcycle responders hit home for the team at MCP Medical when they were approached by a group of bikers for first aid training.
