The 67-year-old was only in charge for four games after his shock appointment as Stephen O’Donnell’s successor.
King had been in charge of Shelbourne’s women’s team in recent years but had not managed in the men’s League of Ireland since 2003. Appointed by Dundalk owner Brian Ainscough, King oversaw one win, one draw and two defeats while at the helm of the Premier Division’s bottom side. A Dundalk statement read: “Noel King has informed the club that he will be stepping down as first-team manager with immediate effect due to medical reasons.
“We would like to thank Noel for his time with the club and we wish him and his family all the best in the future.“The process of recruiting a new manager will begin immediately. The club will not be making any further comment at this time.Get the latest sports headlines straight to your inbox by signing up for free email alerts.
