Presenter Sophy Ridge has revealed that she has been 'radicalised' by the experience of giving birth as she slams the 'shocking' state of maternal health care in the UK.

The presenter - who is married to Mirror journalist Ben Griffiths - said she felt compelled to share her own experiences with the NHS after 'having two children in recent years' and agreed that it was 'poor quality'. 'But if I am being honest with you, it's not really a joke... I actually do feel quite radicalised about it because maternity care in the UK is, in my opinion really quite shocking'.

She continued: 'Maternal mortality for Black women is currently almost four times higher than for white women'. The reporter - who is married to Mirror journalist Ben Griffiths - said she felt compelled to share her own experiences with the NHS after 'having two children in recent years' and agreed that it was 'poor quality'The UK's first parliamentary inquiry into birth trauma has found there is 'shockingly poor quality' in maternity services, claiming good care is 'the exception rather than the rule'.

Health Secretary Victoria Atkins labelled testimonies heard in the report 'harrowing' and vowed to improve maternity care for 'women throughout pregnancy, birth and the critical months that follow'. Ms Clarke, who pushed for the inquiry after revealing in Parliament that she felt she was going to die after giving birth in 2022, told The Times: 'We have listened to mums carefully and applaud their bravery in coming forward, sometimes with horrific testimony of how the system failed them and the mental, physical and economic cost of that failure.

'His words were:"This baby was dead a long time anyway so you should stop stressing over it and let's try to save the other one",' she said.Ms Atkins said she was 'determined to improve the quality and consistency of care for women throughout pregnancy, birth and the critical months that follow'.
