The NHS has urged people to apply sunscreen even if it's cloudy in the UK.

Taking to Instagram, the health service warned people that sunscreen which is out of date will not work. If you are not adequately protected from the sun, you are more at risk of developing cancer such as melanoma, as it can damage the DNA of skin cells. And you can be at risk even without sunburn.

They add: "As the weather gets warmer, it's worth checking to see if your bottle of sunscreen is still effective. To check if your sunscreen is still going to be effective when applied, you should look out for a symbol which will be like an opened jar. Written on it will be how long it will last.
